The Municipality is headed by Executive Mayor, Cllr. Motseokae Sense Maje, and Speaker, Cllr. Kgalalelo Sereko. As the executive authority of the council, the Executive Mayor provides political guidance over the policy, budget and financial affairs of the municipality.

The Speaker is charged with driving public participation in all compliance and policy matters of Dr. Ruth S. Mompati District Municipality. It is the responsibility of the Speaker to guard the intergrity of the legislative process and play an important role in the oversight that the council must exercise over the actions of the executives. She is also responsible for ensuring that the municipality fulfils its public participation responsibilities.
